thinky and imperfect

yay!

almost fully recovered from Salmonella. one exam today, one tomorrow and then I’m FREE!

mini life update

Two exams down, two more to go… I also came down with the worst case of the stomach flu IN MY LIFE. I’m on day 4 of barely keeping solids down. Luckily, my two other exams are this Monday/Tuesday, so I have all weekend to recover. My entire apartment caught the bug too. One of my roomies was hospitalized since she couldn’t keep water down, and she’s been in there for about… 3 days now? I need to think of a nice card or flowers or something I can send her. Poor girl! She just moved in and then went straight to the hospital. They’re thinking she’ll be released Saturday though, YAY!

I just need to get better, PASS MY EXAMS (one of which, YIKES! is medieval Spanish) and then go HOOOOME!

“Being born a woman is an awful tragedy. Yes, my consuming desire to mingle with road crews, sailors and soldiers, bar room regulars—to be a part of a scene, anonymous, listening, recording—all is spoiled by the fact that I am a girl, a female always in danger of assault and battery. My consuming interest in men and their lives is often misconstrued as a desire to seduce them, or as an invitation to intimacy. Yet, God, I want to talk to everybody I can as deeply as I can. I want to be able to sleep in an open field, to travel west, to walk freely at night.”

other mini life update

So strange. I go home in 11 days, then have a week off, then go back to work at my office job internship. I almost feel like I’m taking 2 steps backwards by going home. Like, I only got re-hired because of past-me, and present-me is really sitting on her laurels and not being a go-getter. On the bright side, I did make a really good friend this semester (maybe two) and I hope we’ll keep hanging out over the summer.

mini life update

Finished an AMAZING internship with the airline, traveled to 11 cities for FREE MOTHERFUCKERS (Las Vegas, San Diego, Portland, Seattle, Santa Fe, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Washington D.C., Orlando, Daytona Beach) and now I’m finishing up my Spring semester and nearly CRYING because it’s almost over and I’m so sad to start working this summer. NEXT YEAR I got into my honors thesis program (YAYAYYAYAY) so I’ll be writing a novel and maybe graduating and becoming a real person….

“We’ll choose knowledge no matter what, we’ll maim ourselves in the process, we’ll stick our hands into the flames for it if necessary. Curiosity is not our only motive; love or grief or despair or hatred is what drives us on. We’ll spy relentlessly on the dead; we’ll open their letters, we’ll read their journals, we’ll go through their trash, hoping for a hint, a final word, an explanation, from those who have deserted us—who’ve left us holding the bag, which is often a good deal emptier than we’d supposed.” ―Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin
